CBR Staff Writer Published 14 September 2012

The new browser is anticipated to be released by fourth quarter

Russian internet search engine Yandex is considering to develop its own internet browser in a bid to compete with Google and support its own services, according to a report.

Russian daily Vedomosti citing unidentified sources with Yandex reported that the new browser is expected to be launched by October 2012.

The 'Russian Google' is aiming to develop a browser for personal computers and smart phones powered by iOS and Android.
Yandex has for some time had its own browser, known as Yandex.Internet, which was developed based on open source code.

Earlier, the Russian search engine had charged search engine giant Google of making it tricky to utilise rival search engines which include Yahoo and Yandex, with Chrome browser.

The firm has reported an average share of 60.4% in the Russian market during the second quarter of 2012.

Yandex is also expecting 40-45% rise in its revenue during 2012, following 60% rise in 2011.
